Takashi Murakami created pieces that he felt would "flattened" the tradition of Japanese contemporary art. Unlike most traditional Japanese artwork, Murakami chooses to work in the field of anime. Using anime, Murakami creates his own characters such as "Mr. DOB", a psychotic version of Mickey Mouse. Amongst the other characters he created, Takashi Murakami makes animations of "KaiKai Kiki", two friendly, mousy creatures. Not only does Murakami create art using these characters, he turns them into consumer products as well. Ranging from plush toys to balloons, Takashi Murakami runs a business for making his artwork affordable to everyday people.
Murakami worked with Marc Jacobs, creating the highest selling Loius Vuitton handbag sold. Kanye West also worked with Murakami for the cover art of his critically acclaimed album "Graduation". Takashi Murakami still creates art, mostly working on his Superflat animations.
