So while checking out Senior exhibitions at school, I was approached. The guy's name was John. I had my sketchbook in my hand and I think it piqued his interest.

(My sketchbook cover)
John: "Dude, can I check out your sketchbook?"
Me: "Uh I'm kinda self-concious about my book."
John: "Aw c'mon dude. I'll let you check out mine."
Me: "...Cool. Lets make the trade."
Honestly I thought John was gonna critique the drawings (which he probably did) but he gave me good feedback. I did the same for him, seeing as how damn near everything in his book was good. And I'm seriously not even jockin' him. One of the reasons I think that his drawings were clean and "sketchbookworthy" were because he was more experienced with art. He didn't look like he was a day over 21; but he was, and I won't specifically say how old.
So, we sat for almost an hour just talking about high school, art school, childhood, inspirations, etc. Really cool dude. He gave me insight, and what I find so weird about it is that I was ready to give this $#!+ stuff up. I got tired of not knowing what to draw or what to say. And the only thing he said that motivated me was, "Keep your freedom. Don't let anything change you." These are words that I coulda told myself. But somehow our higher being knew that I wouldn't. So someone did the job for him.

A little work from John.

Hey Kid,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with John.
Your freedom of self is expressed through your art. Don't let anyone or anything get in the way of you conquering your dream. Make your dream a reality. It's a big world- make your mark in, don't be afraid to stand out and shine.
